Computer Networking Firm Novell to Buy German SUSE Linux in $210 Million Deal.

Nov. 5--Computer networking company Novell Inc. will acquire Germany's SUSE Linux AG, the world's second-largest vendor of Linux operating system software.

The $210 million deal cements Novell's commitment to the open source operating system, and poses a major challenge to the number one Linux company, Red Hat Inc. of Raleigh, N.C.

It's the second major Linux-related acquisition this year for Novell, which is officially headquartered in Utah but managed from offices in Cambridge.
