Lucent Scientist Hails Voyager 1 As It Reaches Solar System's Edge.

Nov. 6--It's about the size of a Volkswagen Beetle and has technology dating to the mid-1970s.

NASA's aging spacecraft Voyager 1 has finally reached the outer edge of the solar system, after 26 years' sailing past planets on a scientific mission, a group of scientists said Wednesday.

"We've encountered data that would suggest we're finally there," said Louis Lanzerotti, a Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs consultant and professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology's Center for Solar Terrestrial Research.
