Despite Economic Troubles, Online Shopping Expected to Climb.

Nov. 6--Despite the recent economic downturn, this is supposed to be the best year ever for online shopping.

Since online shopping began gaining momentum in 1995, it has been getting bigger and better as consumers get more comfortable with buying blenders, books and blue jeans online.

Jupiter Research released a study Wednesday predicting online shopping will increase 20 percent this season to $16.8 billion. That growth will come primarily from new online shoppers. Each buyer is expected to spend an average of $265 online, up slightly from $257 last year.
