South Carolina Utility Stands Firm on Making Lakeshore Residents Cover Foam.

Nov. 15--SCE&G is sticking by a demand that homes and marinas on Lake Murray put protective plastic liners over foam that keeps docks afloat.

Owners of 6,000 docks must install the rigid liners by Jan. 1, 2005 or take docks out of the water, the lake's owner warns.

"We're not considering any extension," said Tommy Boozer, who oversees lake operations for the Midlands-based utility. "We're not thinking about it."

Officials at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission are suggesting South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. allow some leeway.

The recommendation comes in a package of changes proposed in the way the lake is run.
