Nov. 19--TOKYO--Sony Corp. said Wednesday it will recall about 550,000 battery cases of four models of "CD Walkman" portable CD players worldwide due to defective connection cables.
Sony said it will replace the battery cases, about 330,000 in Japan alone, free of charge.
The company said there is a possibility that the connection cables could heat up and damage the case when pulled or bent repeatedly.
The recall involves the D-NE1, D-NE9, D-EJ985 and D-EJ885 models, which were put on sale in October 2002. More than 10 complaints have been reported since mid-May, Sony said.
