Lockheed Martin's Space Shuttle Design Unit to Hire 200 People in Denver Area.

Nov. 19--Lockheed Martin Space Systems will hire at least 200 people in the Denver area over the next six months as it designs a prototype for the next generation of space shuttles.

The catch, however, is that those jobs could go away if the Jefferson County-based division of Lockheed Martin Corp. doesn't win the orbital space plane contract from NASA next year.

"We have to start staffing up in case we win," said Michael Coats, vice president of Lockheed Martin's advanced space transportation program.
