Italian Jeweller Bulgari Starts Quest for Big Bucks in China.

Nov. 22--A year ago Bulgari CEO Francesco Trapani said it was too dangerous to go it alone in China.

Now Bulgari SpA, the Italian jeweller and luxury goods maker embraced by the likes of Irish singer Bono and actress Nicole Kidman, can't wait to bring its old-world elegance to China's fashion-hungry nouveau riche.

Bulgari plans to open three to five stores in the next few years to meet a sudden surge in demand from Chinese keen to flaunt their new-found wealth and indulge in the company's diamond-encrusted rings, pony-hair bags and silk ties.

Sales in China next year will only account for less than a half percent of total revenue, which hit 774...
