Sprint to Lay Off 2,000.

Nov. 25--A major reorganization and cost-cutting campaign under way at Sprint Corp. will result in about 2,000 layoffs during the fourth quarter, the Overland Park-based company said Monday.
In a statement, company officials said the wide-ranging layoffs will come from the business and consumer wireline and wireless groups, the local telephone operation, technology services, and corporate staff.
Sprint, which has about 68,000 employees worldwide and about 19,000 in the Kansas City area, has shed more than 21,000 employees in just over two years amid a brutally competitive telecommunications market. The company said about 20 percent of the latest round of 2,000 jobs cut -- or...
