Congress May Delay Action on Country-of-Origin Food Labeling.

Nov. 26--Country-of-origin food labeling apparently will be postponed at least another two years as a result of last-minute congressional wrangling, and supporters of labeling said Tuesday they fear the delay could doom the hotly contested issue.

"We think this is a strategy to kill it altogether," said Ray Gilmer, a spokesman for the Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association, a statewide trade group based in Orlando.

Labeling is seen by many Florida citrus and tomato growers, and other farmers throughout the country, as a way to boost domestic sales if consumers could see where their food was produced or grown.
