Federal Ruling Would Aid Transition from Land Line to Wireless Service.

Nov. 12--A Federal Communications Commission move announced Monday could open the door to an exodus from home telephone to wireless service.
On the heels of a recent FCC rule change that allows cell phone customers to switch providers and keep their phone numbers, the agency has again changed its rules to allow land-line customers to change to wireless and keep the same number.
Like the earlier rule, the latest regulation also takes effect in the top 100 metropolitan service areas in the country Nov. 24. The Triad is ranked 55th. The rules take effect for the rest of the country May 24.
