Pasco, Wash., Nut Farmers Get Nutty Near Christmastime.

Dec. 1--Jerry and Dorothy Davis of Richland go a little nuts around the holidays.

Literally. The husband and wife team own and operate Davis Farms, a nut-growing operation in Pasco, and winter means harvest and packaging their product for Christmas cheer.

"It's a killer this time of year," said Jerry, 58. "Everybody wants nuts, so you are processing and harvesting at the same time."

On 5 acres near the Columbia River, tall walnut, black walnut and pecan trees stand in widespread rows. Most of the trees are 20 years old, Jerry said.

The grove looks like a park, with short green grass raked clear of fallen leaves.
