Kentucky Utilities Abandons Paper for High-Tech Outage-Management System.

Dec. 4--The pushpin map is gone.
Kentucky Utilities has replaced much of the antiquated paper-based system -- used to orchestrate Lexington's revival after the February ice storm -- with a high-tech nerve center in its downtown headquarters.
KU's new outage-management system will provide customers with crucial information and faster repairs, the utility promised yesterday during a private tour of the center.
"It's going to be a quantum leap," said Chuck Ely, one of 11 restoration coordinators working in the new center.
