Gateway Rolls Out Media Center that Plugs into a TV.

Dec. 4--Hoping to bring computers into the family room, Gateway has unveiled a new media center that plugs into a television and looks more like a stereo receiver than a traditional desktop.

Called the Gateway 901 Media Center, the unconventional device aims to nudge ahead the convergence of computing and home entertainment a key part of money-losing Gateway's turnaround strategy.

As photos, music and movies go digital, Gateway and other computer makers are betting that people will use computers to store and manage that content making the machines the centerpiece of the digital home.
