Senators Add Gas Rider to Alaska Highway Pipeline Budget.

Dec. 3--A project to liquefy North Slope natural gas for shipment on tankers would qualify for the same $18 billion federal loan guarantee proposed for an Alaska Highway pipeline under legislation now pending before Congress, U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski said Tuesday.
Murkowski and Sen. Ted Stevens, chairman of the Appropriations Committee, added an amendment to a massive budget bill to make the LNG project eligible for the loan guarantee. The Alaska Republicans earlier had failed to get the provision in a sweeping energy bill also still pending before Congress.
