Las Vegas-Area Gas Utility Seeks 25.5 Percent Rate Increase over Two Years.

Dec. 5--Faced with continually rising natural gas prices, the gas utility serving Las Vegas on Thursday asked regulators to approve two rate increases next year that would raise rates by a total of 25.5 percent.
The rate case filing by Southwest Gas Corp. comes on the heels of an 11 percent increase in residential gas rates that became effective Monday.
However, the coldest days of winter may have passed before the first of the two proposed increases begin in March, if the Public Utilities Commission approves the gas company's proposal. That would reduce the immediate impact on customers who depend on gas for space heating.
