Despite Acquittals, Salt Lake City Olympic Bribery Scandal Had Casualties.

Dec. 7--One oft-repeated criticism of the Olympic bribery case is that bid leaders Tom Welch and Dave Johnson were accused of a crime that had no victims.
But as the battlefield smoke clears following U.S. District Judge David Sam's acquittal ruling on Friday, several casualties clearly are visible among the ruins of the Justice Department case.
Chief among them were the three men charged with crimes connected to the case -- Salt Lake City businessman David Simmons, U.S. Olympic Committee official Alfredo La Mont and South Korean businessman Jung Hoon "John" Kim.
Moreover, there were scores of behind-the-scenes functionaries who lived for five years...
