Nevada Officials Mine California for Unhappy Business Owners.

Dec. 12--Bruce Cowan, chief executive officer of Acclaim Electronics, believes he is part of a trend. The University of California, Los Angeles graduate and California native has abandoned the state and moved his corporate headquarters to Las Vegas.

He likes Nevada's relatively low real estate prices, the lack of taxes on business inventory, the lack of corporate and personal taxes, affordable workers' compensation insurance and a world-class airport. Cowan estimates that his operational costs run 20 percent to 25 percent lower than they did in Carlsbad, Calif.
