Temporary Staffing Employment Grows, as Workers Slip Back into Jobs.

Dec. 17--Eileen Mahoney was a corporate refugee. The Manhattan resident said her past three advertising jobs lasted no more than a year before she was laid off because of tough economic times. Mahoney, 33, received the latest pink slip in November 2002.

After consulting for several months and having no luck finding another accountant-management position, she gave up and took a temporary job this past September. She now works as an assistant to the chief market strategist at a bank, but she's hoping to pursue another advertising job.

"Temping provided the ideal solution for me," she said. "It gave me the stability. It gave me the income."
