Minnesota Bosses Expect Modest Turnaround in 2004 Hiring, Federal Reserve Says.

Dec. 18--Buoyed by expectations of stronger sales, employers in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest expect a turnaround in hiring next year, albeit a modest one, according to a forecast released Wednesday by the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.
Upper Midwest employers in retail, manufacturing and agriculture all expect to expand employment, while the construction industry is neutral, the Minneapolis Fed reported.
At the same time last year, the Minneapolis Fed's annual survey of business leaders showed that only manufacturers foresaw any hiring expansion -- and just barely.
