Southern California Edison Wins Regulatory Approval to Acquire Power Plant.

Dec. 19--Southern California Edison Co. won authorization Thursday from the California Public Utilities Commission to acquire a 1,054-megawatt power plant under development in Redlands.

It is a step toward bringing the utility back into the energy development business for the first time since the state's ill-fated deregulation.

In an unusual move, the commission allowed Edison to buy the Mountainview Power Plant through a new subsidiary that would sell power back to its parent company, Edison. As a wholesale producer of power, the subsidiary would be under regulation of the Federal Energy Commission.
