Atlanta Transit Authority to Cut 100 Positions.

Dec. 19--MARTA is rolling out a sweeping mix of layoffs, union concessions and an aggressive advertising sales plan to close a multimillion-dollar gap between its revenues and its operating expenses.

The transit authority will eliminate 100 positions and require all nonunion employees to take two weeks off without pay between now and mid-June. The payroll cutbacks are expected to save the authority $6.6 million in fiscal 2004.

About 60 of the positions to be eliminated are currently filled, said General Manager Nathaniel Ford. Most of the layoffs will involve nonunion personnel, such as executive and administrative staffers.
