Dec. 30--If you walk into old-fashioned coffee houses like On Lok Yun or the original Ea Sae, both of which have been serving up steaming mugs for some 70 years, what are you really coming for? A cup of coffee, or a cup of memory?

Many young Bangkokians who frequent the two coffee houses are not really interested in the beverages. Instead, they come to sip nostalgia, and breathe in the aroma of the past, a delicate and intangible commodity so easily swept aside by the flash flood of globalization.
