London Stock Exchange's FTSE Index Leaps over 4500 Hurdle.

Jan. 3--Seeing the Footsie breeze past 4500 for the first time in more than a year brought immediate New Year cheer to sparsely populated dealing rooms.
Ahead of its 20th birthday today, the blue chip index closed 33.3 points higher at 4510.2.
The rise was its tenth consecutive gain, its longest winning streak in more than six years. Long may it continue.
The mood across the Pond was upbeat too, particularly when The Institute of Supply Management's reading on manufacturing for December came in at a much-better-than- expected 66.2 percent, up from 62.8 percent in November.
