Japan Apparel Retailer Reports 12 Percent Rise in December Sales.

Jan. 6--TOKYO--Fast Retailing Co., operator of Uniqlo casual clothing stores, said Tuesday its sales in December rose 12.4 percent from a year earlier on a same-store basis, following a 15.1 percent fall in November and 9.1 percent rise in October.
It attributed the improved sales to promotion campaigns and brisk demand for such products as underwear using new materials and coats and jackets it developed by itself.
The number of customers rose 12.1 percent on a same-store basis, with per-customer spending inching up 0.3 percent.
Sales at newly opened stores and directly managed outlets showed an 18.7 percent surge from a year earlier. The number of customers...
