Hartford, Conn., Mayor Chooses Finalists in Bid to Purchase, Renovate Hilton.

Jan. 6--Mayor Eddie A. Perez intends to close a deal by Jan. 17 with one of two developers chosen Monday as finalists in the fast-track competition to purchase and renovate the city's largest hotel, the Hartford Hilton.

Both developers met a key selection criterion set by the mayor, convincing a screening committee in closed interviews that they could retain existing jobs by keeping the Hilton open during renovations.

Perez acted last month to block the proposed purchase of the Hilton by The Procaccianti Group of Cranston, R.I., a non-union company that wants the hotel closed and its workforce dismissed as a condition of the $6 million sale.
