Florida Attorney General Appeals BellSouth Telephone Rate Hike.

Jan. 8--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist appealed a $355 million increase in local telephone rates to the Florida Supreme Court on Wednesday, but it may be months before consumers know if they'll have to dig deeper into their wallets to get a dial tone.
Crist's move temporarily blocks the increase, but the telephone companies are expected to challenge even that automatic delay. The rate hikes approved by the Public Service Commission could double local phone bills within four years.
