NASA Needs a Focus, Such as Putting a Human on Mars, Arizona Expert Says.

Jan. 13--Wesley Ward of the U.S. Geological Survey has waited for the announcement expected from President Bush this week -- the one that heralds plans to put a man on Mars and a space station on the moon.

Ward, who now works in Tucson but helped establish the USGS astrogeology program in Flagstaff, said that he and those who work within his agency have been expecting the presidential announcement of galactic proportions, and recognize that now the timing is right.
