Thai Commerce Minister Rules Out State Funds in Rice Silo Scheme.

Jan. 13--The Rice Policy Committee has approved the paddy silo programme on condition that the investment comes only from private funds.

The government will support the programme by keeping its more than 3.6 million tonnes of paddy at the privately owned silos, according to Commerce Minister Watana Muangsook.

Mr Watana, also head of the sub-committee on rice policy, said interested private companies had to bear in mind that the government would not finance the programme. They would also have to take management risks and make their own decisions regarding the investment size.
