Potential Merger of Cingular, AT&T Wireless Would Face Antitrust Hurdles.

Jan. 15--A merger between the nation's second and third-biggest wireless-phone companies would reduce intense industry pricing pressures and help both companies address their shortcomings, experts said Wednesday.

But any deal between Cingular Wireless and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. would have to clear antitrust hurdles, especially in cities such as Dallas where the companies dominate the field and own a wide swath of cellular frequencies.
