Orange County, Fla., Bed Tax No Crutch for Orlando's Big Ideas.

Jan. 16--Orange County can offer Orlando only negligible support on major building projects such as a performing-arts center or sports facility in the next decade.
The reason: Tourism revenues continue to suffer, despite recent spikes in visitors.
"The situation is more dire than what I'd been told in the past," Orange County Chairman Rich Crotty said Wednesday. "It's going to be slim pickings for a long time to come."
That's not good news for Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, who has pledged to begin construction on his dream performance-arts venue by 2008 and has repeatedly said he would need public funds to pull off the project.
