Energy Agency to House Finance Center in Oak Ridge, Tenn., Office.

Jan. 17--OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- The U.S. Department of Energy's Oak Ridge office will play an expanded role under a new plan that consolidates and streamlines the federal agency's financial-services operation.

Oak Ridge will take over all DOE activities involving vendor and travel payments, according to Nancy Fitchpatrick, director of the Oak Ridge Financial Services Center.

The plan, announced this week, is supposed to save taxpayers $31 million over a five-year period and to reduce nationwide personnel from 181 to 118.

Fitchpatrick said the Oak Ridge center will continue to employ 23 people, mostly accountants and accounting technicians....
