Jan. 26--COURSING THE CIRCUITS, FREED BY SPEED: Back in the good ol' days (only a couple of years ago for many of you) connecting to the Internet meant dialing-in with a molasses-slow modem. I'm sure you remember the "twang, twang, fizzzzppppppttt.....fzzzz... bonnggg, bonnggg" sound that accompanied the tedious process of merging your computer onto the information highway.
Some of us even had a second phone line installed so we wouldn't miss important calls from telemarketers while we were crawling from site to site at the speed of drying paint. SPAM was still something eaten on Sunday nights in college dorms, and nobody Googled anyone.
And we liked it!...
