Jan. 31--As Ford prepares to introduce its first gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle, a version of the compact Escape sport utility, the company is rolling out the second generation of the gasoline-powered Escape as an early 2005 model.
The Escape was introduced for the 2000 model year as the first compact SUV in the Ford lineup and was so well received that it quickly became the best-seller in its class -- an honor the model still holds.
Because of Ford's controlling interest in, and partnership with, the Japanese automaker Mazda, the original Escape was shared with Mazda. Mazda sells its version as the Tribute, and it, too, is being updated for...
