Apple Computer's New iLife '04 Shows Company's Independent Side.

Feb. 2--Apple Computer's iLife '04 serves as a sign that the company's home-brew culture is alive and kicking, despite speculation it's now more open to writing Windows software.

Enter iTunes, GarageBand, iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD. These programs for managing and creating music, images, video and DVDs epitomize Apple and show what a smart company can accomplish when it first builds its own computers, tailored to its own operating system.

In particular, I like the enhanced iPhoto slide-show mode where you can rotate and delete photos. Another great feature is "non-destructive editing" in the iMovie timeline, allowing you to adjust the start and end points of...
