Home Depot to Build Third Store in Chatham County, Ga.

Feb. 4--Home Depot wants to build a new store in the Victory Drive shopping center where one of Kmart's Big K stores closed early last year.

Company officials aren't talking about it yet. Spokesman John Simley provided no information about the project.

But plans that Home Depot has submitted to the Metropolitan Planning Commission call for razing Scotty's Hardware, along with a cluster of other retail stores.

Then the developer, New Plan Excel Realty Trust of New York, would use the space to build the new 104,700-square-foot Home Depot and an adjoining 29,496-square-foot garden center next-door to several other small retailers and a Food Lion...
