Feb. 5--FORT WAYNE -- A steelmaker committed to holding down costs while finding profitable, niche markets will bid for Slater Steel's Fort Wayne operations.
Universal Stainless Alloy Products Inc. of Bridgeville, Pa., became the second bidder to qualify for the Feb. 11 bankruptcy court auction by submitting a $3.19 million bid before Wednesday's deadline of 1 p.m. Arlington Capital, a Fort Wayne investment group, earlier had submitted a $3 million offer that has been accepted as the "stalking horse" bid, the minimum that would be accepted.
