Norfolk State Gains Technological Edge with Optical Engineering Program.

Feb. 9--NORFOLK, Va. -- Newton, Einstein, de Broglie.

Their black-and-white portraits flashed on a screen at Norfolk State University, along with the jumble of numbers and Greek letters signifying their discoveries.

Each of those physicists, Demetris L. Geddis told his engineering students, added a major if contradictory contribution to understanding the mysterious properties of light.

Norfolk State hopes to carve a citation in this century's list of master scientists and breakthroughs.
