Oregon Lottery Board to Hold Hearings on Retailers' Compensation.

Feb. 9--SALEM, Ore. -- The Oregon State Lottery Commission will hold public hearings this week on the compensation retailers receive for carrying video poker machines.

Commissioners are considering reducing the rate as they set terms for a new six-year contract with retailers starting in June.

Retailers receive, on average, 32 percent of net proceeds from video poker; that amounted to about $159 million last fiscal year. A recent survey by the secretary of state's Audits Division shows Oregon pays a bigger cut than similar lottery operations, all based in Canada.
