Florida Senate Republicans' Fix for KidCare Waiting List Angers Some.

Feb. 11--TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Senate Republicans proposed a plan Tuesday that soon could help 90,000 Florida children awaiting state-subsidized health insurance but also threatens future coverage for thousands of youngsters from low-income families.

Senate leaders said they would steer $25 million in state and federal funding toward the Florida KidCare program next month to cover those languishing on a waiting list that is growing at a rate of at least 2,000 per week.

The move comes after weeks of intense heat from Democrats and social service advocates, who have attacked Gov. Jeb Bush and the Republican-led Legislature for failing to properly finance...
