Feb. 15--Subaru created a market segment in the 1995 model year by combining station wagon and sport-utility vehicle into a go-anywhere all-wheel-drive Outback wagon.

Subaru called it a sport-utility wagon, though basically it was a crossover before the term was coined.

In 1998 Subaru combined sedan and sport-utility vehicle into a go-anywhere AWD Outback sedan that Subaru called a sport-utility sedan, though it was another crossover that arrived before the name did.

Then in '03 Subaru took an AWD Outback sedan and replaced the enclosed cargo hold and with a pickup bed and created a vehicle called Baja.

OK, Ford and Chevy did the same years ago with...
