U.S. Senate to Vote on Limitation of Physician Liability in Malpractice Suits.

Feb. 24--WASHINGTON -- Republican presidential and legislative agendas will merge today in the Senate as lawmakers vote on a scaled-down measure to limit physicians' liability in medical malpractice lawsuits.

The vote, the first on a major health care issue this year, shows the close coordination between President Bush's re-election campaign and the Senate Republican leadership. Both favor the liability cap.

With the presidential campaign well under way, Democrats are in no mood to give Bush any legislative victories this year. Democrats blocked consideration of a broader liability cap last year and are expected to have enough votes to do so again...
