Oregon Lottery Director Wants Retailers' Compensation Cut.

Feb. 26--SALEM, Ore. -- The Oregon State Lottery director on Wednesday recommended that video poker compensation for retailers be cut by almost one-third to generate an estimated $250 million more revenue for the state during six years.

Brenda Rocklin proposed that the lottery commission reduce retailers' take of net proceeds from an average of 32 percent to 22 percent or 23 percent by 2007. The commission will decide the issue March 31.

If adopted, the new rates would be the first significant decreases since the lottery started offering video poker 12 years ago at a 35 percent compensation rate for all retailers. Commissioners have tinkered with the...
