Shortage of Instructors Exacerbates Dearth in Nursing Sector.

Mar. 2--A cycle of turning away students is contributing to the country's nursing shortage and will continue if trends in filling nurse educator positions don't improve.
More than 11,000 qualified nursing students were turned away from programs in 2003, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, and almost 65 percent of the schools reporting said that a shortage of instructors for entry-level baccalaureate programs was the reason.
Other factors limiting acceptance rates include shortages of clinical sites for upper-level students and supervisors with specialties to match those sites.
