Intrawest Decides to Tweak Its Concept at Copper Mountain, Colo., Resort.

Mar. 8--COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. -- Intrawest's $500 million push to convert this 33-year-old resort from day-trip ski destination into a year-round resort that draws vacationers eager to explore a lively,

cobblestone- paved village is not working.

Yet.

Five years into the development of The Village at Copper, Intrawest is still tweaking its strategy.

Today it hopes to receive Summit County approval to increase the number of homes and shops in the Village by at least 50 percent.

Intrawest's "build it and they will come" concept has worked at Intrawest-developed villages at California's Squaw Valley, Canada's Tremblant and Whistler-Blackcomb...
