Mar. 7--Dick Levitt owns Gustavus Electric Co. and he has what should be the Green Energy poster project for the Sierra Club.

Three miles from Leavitt's diesel-fueled power plant in Gustavus, a tiny community of 450 in northern Southeast Alaska, is a fast-flowing stream, a perfect site for a small hydro plant.

Goodbye polluting diesel, hello clean hydro.

Once he gets hydro power online, Levitt hopes to eventually lower Gustavus' electricity rates, now 49 cents per kilowatt-hour.
