University of Oregon Education College Laments Antiquated Teaching Facilities.

Mar. 15--Some of the nation's best research on how to educate children with all manner of disabilities is done at the University of Oregon, and it's done in buildings that most of those children would have a hard time using.

"This is about as minimalist as you can get," said professor Rob Horner, one of the country's top special education experts, as he pointed out the long wooden ramp that provides wheelchair access to the first floor of a converted, early 1900s house where his program is located. The two upper floors are not handicap accessible.

"To have this program in buildings that are minimally accessible is an ongoing embarrassment," he said....
