Hewlett-Packard to Hit 12 Asian Markets with Linux PCs in June, Newspaper Says.

Mar. 16--TOKYO -- Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) plans to launch several different models of Linux-based desktop personal computers in 12 Asian countries including Japan and China, a major business daily reported Tuesday.

Citing sources close to the U.S. firm, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said that HP may ship 1 million units of these PCs in the first year to the 12 countries that also include South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand and India.

The report said HP plans to procure the operating system and application software of these PCs from Japanese companies.
