Bank of America Shareholders Approve Merger with FleetBoston.

Mar. 18--Shareholders on Wednesday approved Bank of America Corp.'s acquisition of FleetBoston Financial Corp., the last big hurdle before completing the $47 billion merger.

At simultaneous meetings in Charlotte and Boston, just over two-thirds of outstanding shares were cast in favor of the deal at each bank, exceeding the majority required.

"We are building a company that will deliver more financial service capabilities, with more convenience and choice, to more Americans than ever before in our nation's history," Bank of America Chairman and Chief Executive Ken Lewis said in Charlotte.
