Antitrust Regulators to Puzzle over Possible Merger of Tobacco Giants.

Mar. 18--One of the biggest question marks over R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Holdings Inc.'s proposed purchase of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. is what antitrust regulators will or will not do about it.
"In our view, the greatest uncertainty rests with securing the FTC clearances," Martin Feldman, an analyst at Merrill Lynch wrote in a report Tuesday, referring to the Federal Trade Commission.
Even though it is unclear what -- if anything -- the commission will do about the proposed deal, which was announced in October, there's plenty of speculation and opinion about what the commission could or should do.
