Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Admits to Medical Billing Error.

Mar. 23--An error by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida may have caused thousands of patients to be billed more for their medical care than necessary. The insurer said it solved the glitch last year, but some patients and providers said they are still struggling with after-effects.
The Jacksonville-based insurer changed its billing system in April because of new federal privacy and coding rules. According to Blue Cross spokesman Mark Wright, a mistake in the new coding caused a miscalculation of the patients' portions of charges when treated by certain providers.
